This was originally scheduled to be the third debate of the 2020 Election, but the second debate was canceled after Trump refused to take part in a virtual debate following his COVID-19 diagnosis.
The presidential debate commission announced that microphones will be muted for Trump and Biden during the initial first two minutes of their opponent’s response during each of the six sections. This was an effort to avoid the chaotic, interruption-filled scene that unfolded at the first debate, when Trump interrupted Biden well over 100 times.
